"A Commemorative Print - 2007 for 40 years of exhibition and community support in Paul Murray's home, of Essex County, Ontario, Canada." This is a memorable collectable piece, that will have great provenance and value in the future.
"Marie - The last generation of simple hillbilly life remains in her home. Her daughters and grandchildren all live together, they support each other, and are a very close family. Her pride and her years of making "it work", show in this rare moment of solitude."

Her big beautiful eyes bring you into her world. Paul’s intimate and powerful talent brings you so close to her, you could almost know what she is thinking and what she is doing or what is in her world. She lives in coal mining country deep in the woods of the Appalachian Mountains; the only girl in a long row of boys. She will break the tradition of five generations of coal miners. She’ll not be going down below with that deadly black dust.

"I remember how they would share the harness of the work mare using her reins to guide her slowly through the pasture toward the warmth of the barn beyond... and how they exuded a shyness that was endearing. Though Joseph spoke little, when he did it was with a soft careful calmness that made the listener sense an importance in his every word. These are just a few of the many memories that are in my mind as I complete this glimpse of the past."

These are the few remaining images of Paul's special friendship with a centuries old pioneer family. Paul was one of a few invited into the inner sanctum of Joey's rustic life; spent together with siblings. There was a wisdom and yet an innocence, a cherished bond between them, their animals and God. Their every day a happy one; no matter what trials came their way. Enjoy this painting that took many years to come to fruition. The washes shown at the bottom are what starts the painting, the pencil sketch of the hands and the slow build up of layers. The layers or "glazing" of many different colors show the painstaking effort to create each color. There is much suffering by Paul to capture the soul and essence of Joey. Look up close to the overalls unfinished at the bottom. There is red, brown and purple stripes under the final blue we see. From reading books as a child, these techniques were all learned by Paul Murray, from the 16th century masters...Enjoy this painting in your home....it'll feel like your hiding an artist in the backroom and he's working on it just for you.

A child’s prayer: " God pray for Mommy, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa and I hope the whole world is happy and safe." Does she have a greater connection to God? Some think so. If she knew a friend that wasn’t well, she would pray, "Please make her better so she can play with me." Life seems so simple at this age, is it? Could prayer, and each of us looking out for each other, bring happiness, wellness..... Do the children of our world have the idea if each of us prayed, or helped each other a little more, just maybe we could make the connection and make a difference in the life of someone who really needs it.

Red is a mountain man who loves the old ways so much, he has built a mini museum with primitive buildings mad with found wood, each with trade tools and antiques. A lye making shop, cobbler shop, blacksmith shop and many more. Red always seems joyful like you would think Santa Clause would be. He is always happy to be with people, sharing stories of the old days and jokes he’s picked up on the way. He loves critters, too. He has always owned mules, burros goats and chickens.
He stands here with our burro "Dolly" getting ready to do some chores. Every spring Dolly & Paul ploughed our vegetable garden. "Dolly" did a good job and was a great joy for Paul and, I think Dolly ,too! By the way, Dolly loves people just as much, and he gives you an exuberant greeting that only a donkey can do! In April 2009 Dolly, age 5, was accidentally killed by a gun. He will be sorely missed, we were blessed to have had him.

"I'd build me a cabin if only I could, I'd make me a shine still deep in the wood, I'd get me a mule an' work 'em June ta May, reckin' you won't find me 'til judgement day." Levi was a coalminer, gristmiller and notorious moonshiner. Levi Collins of Cherry Bottom, TN."

Well, by the way Milt’s lookin’, you would think anything but silk & satin! Milt maneuvers the meanest face he can while holding his gun and glaring at the two strangers coming upon his small cabin far in the mountains of Appalachia. This is his shield to scare any wrong doers away. Paul and I did get past this moment, in fact, we became friends for over 20 years. For any that might not know, these mountain friendships with " furriners" are an honor.
A bachelor, Milt lived happily in a simple cabin in the hills surrounded by things that he loved; his critters, his gun & clock collection, his garden and, not least of all, a yard full of clutter. Not just any clutter! Among the old boots and bottles there were parts, metal and more than that! His inspiration would invent any new tool to solve any project.
Milt was not a sweet, polished man but to Paul & I , he was a real, living truth, close to earth, with no pretense......anything but Silk & Satin. It was an honor to be a friend of such a man.
